The first day of school is so many things all wrapped into one. This year my oldest goes to Kindergarten and my youngest goes to preschool. For the first time in 5 years I will be kid free twice a week. It’s going to be a huge change for me (I’m not sure I’m ready for this). To celebrate the first day of school I made the teachers a first day teachers survival kit.

Honestly you can put anything in this adorable bucket, from school supplies, to a combination of gift card, candy and school supplies.

I love those cute metal buckets that the Target dollar spot and the dollar store sells. I just find them adorable. They make great centerpieces, gifts and work perfectly for the sensory bin. My kids are using some now in the garden sensory bin. I had lots of metal buckets already so I chose a red one because it matches the washi tape the best.

My kids are in love with the washi tape and the whole time I tried to make this, all I heard was “I want some.” I’ll have to get them some and create a craft soon. I found the back to school washi tape at Michaels. Last year I created this fun DIY washi tape clipboard for a back to school teacher gift. It’s super cute and this will be my son’s Kindergarten teachers gift this year.

The buckets are super easy to create. Now the buckets are tricky to put it around or to put it vertical, it just didn’t work out. Don’t waste tape like I did trying to make it happen (my kids were super happy though to get the pieces). So I went with diagonal stripes. Start a pattern with the tape and repeat the pattern all the way around. Rub gently at the lip of the bucket at the top and bottom to get a perfect crease.

Back to School Survival Kit

On the one side where the diagonal stripes end I cut the washi tape as close as I could to the other tape. Then I put a piece going up and down to cover all the cut pieces. It just didn’t look right without that added piece.

Ideas for the Teacher Survival Kit

The next step is to fill the bucket with goodies for the teacher. If you already know the teacher, it makes it easier to personalize the items, but if you don’t thats ok. Do a variety of candy, snacks and school supplies.

Plus this will make super cute classroom decor and a great decoration for the teacher’s desk. Are you ready to make a first day teachers survival kit?
